Tutoring Writing Mural
Originally the idea of creating a mural came for my scholarship mentor professor Wyss. I had recently started to teach myself how to spray paint and wanted to follow in the footsteps of artists like Kiptoe, TenHundred, and Slew. All these artists are considered muralists and share their techniques, skills, and resources on YouTube. After being blown aways with what they can do with spray paint and regular house paint, I knew that I wanted to create a mural myself. Back home I bought myself spray paints, a can of white paint, and a eight by four piece of plywood. My mentor found out about my newly found interest and said that maybe I should create a mural for the school one day. After receiving the requirements for our class final project I saw an opportunity to incorporate art and with my mentors’ comments behind my mind, I wanted to see if there was any way for me to create a mural. I originally brought up the idea to my group mates and they enjoyed it and when I brought it up to our professor she was also all in for it. With the avid support I set out to contact and communicate with school officials and luckily got the mural idea approved.
My hope is to continue bringing excitement and creativity into the writing tutors office. As writing tutors our goal is to help guide students through the writing process and hopefully create better writers. In my opinion, art has the ability to change how people feel, it can help create new ideas, inspiration, and can spark creativity. What better location is there for a mural that prompts creation, improves an individual’s mood, and creates an environment of comfort than the writing tutors office.
About the Artist
Emmanuel Leal was born and raised in Queens, NY. Yet, his ancestry and heritage can be traced back to Mexico. His interest in art started from a young age, but after joining his high school art and design academy he was able to hone his skills. His teachers at the time introduced him to mixed media and he specialized in acrylic painting. He currently focuses on digital art, spray painting, and most recently videography. Online, he goes by the name of Clatth and in the upcoming months he plans on creating his own clothing and accessories brand.
The final place one can find the mural is in the Scholars Lab in the Madeleine Clark Wallace Library
